A farmer dreamed of harvesting a big crop of corn he could sell for a nice profit, but he hated to spend money on seed. “What if the corn doesn’t come up? I’ll be out all that money,” he said. He bought the seed anyway, grumbling about the cost, then went back to the farm and planted the seed. Next week, he called up the seed seller, irate. “I planted all this seed and nothing has come up!”

Ridiculous, right? But that’s almost the way many businesses think about marketing. They seem to feel marketing should provide instant results without any risk. Read more…

Woody Allen said that 80% of life is just showing up.

And that may be true of marketing as well.

One thing’s for sure: if you’re not showing up and regularly getting onto prospects’ mental radar screens, your chances of success are about as good as the invisible man’s chances of getting on the front of GQ. Read more…

Zero Waste Marketing

A friend told me about eating at a restaurant in Spain where the prices were ridiculously low. He asked the owner how he was able to stay in business with such low prices. The owner said, “We waste nothing!”

Well, I’m not sure that’s what you want to hear right after you’ve finished lunch!
